drone insuranceThey’re used by television news stations to capture events and monitor traffic.  They’re used by the government to take stock of disaster damage.  They’re used by individuals for recreational fun and to take aerial photography.

Drones, in a few short years, have become a part of everyday life.

If you own a drone, or are thinking about getting one, make certain Drone Insurance is part of the process.

Drone Insurance Not Required, but Important to Secure Your Finances

Our friends at the Insurance Information Institute (III) remind users that all drones weighing more than 55 pounds must be registered with the Federal Aviation Administration.  Additionally, these drones are prohibited from flying higher than 400 feet, within five miles of an airport, and above crowds or prohibited objects.

While not a state or federal requirement, Drone Insurance definitely makes for a smart purchase.

As III tells us, many new drone operators may experience pilot error or equipment failure.  Your Homeowners Insurance likely does not cover or provide enough coverage for drone accidents.  This includes if your drone damages a neighbor’s property or vehicle.

The New Hampshire Union Leaders reports that a number of small business owners now use drones.  One example was a realtor who uses the drones to film properties he represents.  He was looking for Drone Insurance for a couple reasons:

  • Protect his business and finances if his drone damages property
  • Repair or replace his drone if it is damaged

drone insuranceDrone Insurance is particularly important if a person is injured by a drone.  The injured party likely would sue the drone operator or the company that used or hired a drone.

While this is a new and emerging field, a policy to cover your drone for business or recreational purposes doesn’t have to be expensive.  As your local, independent insurance agent, the Keating Agency has relationships with more than two dozen companies.  This allows us to find the right insurer to provide you with the drone protection that best suits your needs.

For 50 years, the Keating Agency has striven to provide the most up to date information and valued products to our friends and neighbors.  We take pride in the high quality of service we furnish and the satisfaction of our customers.  We’re here to represent you and your best interests.  Give us a call.
